Kyle is very familiar with the southern border region.  Before other journalists took notice, he was there documenting the Central American migrant trail.  If you haven't seen it, by all means check out his own migrant's journey, here, and here

That quote encompasses so much of what this migration is about. It's about choice, and given the choice, most would rather stay home. I support with all my heart their right to change locale in order to live, and I'd also do anything to make it possible for them to avoid the trip.
